Safety and privacy
In plain words, for parents.
This page is a summary. The binding versions are the Privacy Policy and the Children's Privacy Notice.
What we collect about your child
- A profile: a nickname (we ask for a made-up one), an age from 9 to 13, and a language.
- Lesson answers, as text: what your child asked for, their prediction, their corrections, their answer to the mastery check, and the rule in their own words. These are what you see on the progress page.
- Their creations: the games and other things they choose to keep.
- A sign-in: during the pilot, accounts are set up by invitation. [who holds the account email, parent or school, and how parental consent is verified at sign-up]
What we never keep
- Recordings of your child's voice. Speech is streamed to the voice model while your child talks so it can answer. ayyayo does not save the audio.
- Real names, schools, addresses or phone numbers. We don't ask for them. The voice is told never to ask for them, and to tell your child not to share them.
Who else handles the data
To run ayyayo we use these services. Each processes data only to provide its part of the app.
- Google Cloud (Vertex AI, Gemini Live): the voice conversation.
- Cerebras: building the games and checking lesson answers.
- Microsoft Azure AI Foundry: replies from talking characters in published creations.
- Supabase: accounts, lesson progress and saved creations.
- Vercel: hosting the website and the app.
[where each provider stores data, and each provider's retention and training terms as configured for ayyayo]
Publishing
A creation stays private unless your child publishes it. A published creation gets its own link and QR code, so anyone with the link can open it. It is marked so that search engines don't list it. If your child tries to use a real name or a phone number as the site name, ayyayo refuses and asks for a made-up name.
Talking characters
Some creations talk back. In a published creation, every message and every reply passes a safety check first, there is a limit on how many messages can be sent, and each creation has a spending cap. If the safety check is unavailable, the character answers with a fixed, harmless line instead of calling the AI.
What you can ask us to do
See your child's data, correct it, delete it, or withdraw consent. Write to [privacy contact email]. We will reply within [response time].
